Wheat Field Cut For Hay

Wheat Field Cut For Hay

November 30, 2010

So, I am two months into my pregnancy; and tonight I experienced something that would make any pregnant woman cross her legs and cringe!

Life on the farm is never boring.  Especially for us during this time of year.  Our cows are calving!  Yay!  I love seeing those little boogers running around in the cool air.

Not all of our cows, however, breeze through delivery like we always hope.  There are various things that can happen.  Calves can be breech, legs can be bent preventing proper delivery and then there's the prolapse.  Which is what I experienced tonight.

For those of you who don't know what prolapse is, get ready.  But, before I give you the answer, you should know:  If you are queasy turn away now, if you don't like hearing things about the female anatomy do not read any further.  Now, consider yourselves warned!

A prolapse is when the uterus slips outside the body.

That's right.

I told you if you were queasy to turn away!

Anyway, one of our cows prolapsed tonight.  She is 8 months pregnant and we caught it before we lost the calf or her.  So, how do you fix a prolapsed cow?  Well, this is where it gets interesting.

You push it back in and sew up her vagina.

Ouch!

I really thought about taking pictures and documenting it photographically for you all, but decided against it due to the graphic nature of a prolapse.

Instead I just watched.

First, you wash the uterus with warm water.  Then you shove it back in.  Last, you take a needle the size of a pencil and sew up the vagina!

In about three to four weeks, we'll cut the sutures and she'll have a calf.  It's as easy as that!

Unless you're a cow.

Then it's really painful.

Confessions

I know!

It's been 24 days since I've posted a blog.

I do have an excuse.

I'm not sure how good an excuse it is; I mean it's a great one to me, but you might not think so.

Anyway...

As to my excuse:  I'M TIRED!!!

I am so tired,  It's a tired I have never experienced before and don't even know how to describe.

Not all of you know this, but I got a job.  In mid September I was hired as an Aide for the Pre-K at our local public school.  I know I used to work at a school before I moved last spring, but I worked in a Library.  I didn't have to chase around 50 four-year-olds!

Then, to top it off, two weeks after I started the job, LB and I found out that I'm pregnant!

Yes!  You read it right!  I'm going to have a baby!  Does this explain why I'M TIRED?

So, for the past few weeks, I've been going to work, wrangling 25 kids, going home for lunch and taking a nap, going back to work, wrangling another 25 kids, coming home, taking a nap, waking up to cook supper and hopefully not throw up, then laying on the couch and take another nap, then ironing clothes for the next day, and finally going to bed!

I wanted to tell all you as soon as I found out, but given my past experiences, I was afraid to say anything too soon.  LB and I have been making weekly visits to the fertility specialist in the City for the past 4 weeks.  This last week, my doctor released me from her care to continue the rest of my pregnancy with my regular OB doctor!  Yay!  So, as far as the doctor is concerned I am well on my way to a healthy 9 month pregnancy!

Although I have good news from the doctor, I still covet your prayers!  Please remember me during your quite time!

I'll keep you posted!

Scrapbooking Retreat

I love scrapbooking!

Have I ever told you that?

This weekend I have been invited to a scrapbooking retreat.  I went last year and had a blast.  I'm really looking forward to this year.

The retreat is in the beautiful Wichita Mountains  and right now all the leaves are painted for fall, making the stay that much  more enjoyable!

I am leaving Moose with LB, which is always interesting.  First, Moose has separation anxiety.  Second, LB has to remember to give Moose all of his medicine and convince him to actually take it for him.

So, we'll see how everything goes!  It won't hurt either of them.

One Of My Favorite Things

One of my favorite things is when it's early afternoon, and the TV is turned off, and no appliances are running and my house is completely quie; when the afternoon sun is dappled across my floor.  The sun beams stream through the leaves of my maple trees and come dancing through my big livingroom window.  Then, the only sound that I hear is the breeze outside my door which is the music the sun is dancing to.
