Today was a good day. I made 5 dozen cookies!
Don't worry, we didn't eat that many.
On Wednesdays, I send baked goods to the bank with LB for all the old men that come in for coffee. (LB works at a bank, have I ever told you that?) So, tomorrow, I'm sending cookies!
Cooper and I got up this morning and ran to the grocery store and got all the supplies for the cookies. We got stuff for snicker doodles, Chocolate chip, peanut butter and white chocolate chip peanut butter. So, after lunch, our cookie baking began. We started with the peanut butter varieties. Baby J helped me turn the mixer on and off and then scrape the bowl when we finished. After we got that batch baked, I put Cooper down for a nap with a promise that when he woke up, I would let him have one of the cookies.
It was a great idea. Cooper would take a nap and I'd be able to get the rest of the cookies baked while he was sleeping. I worked and got three dozen chocolate chip cookies on the cookie sheets and ready for the oven. So, in between switching out the cookie sheets, I sat down in the recliner with a glass of milk to scrape the remnants of cookie dough out of the bowl.
While all of this was going on, LB came home from work, the oven timer went off, and Baby J woke up. I left the bowl and spatula on the table next to the chair with my glass of milk, completely forgotten. Baby J, on the other hand, remembered my promise of a cookie. So, I went to the kitchen to retrieve one for him. When, suddenly, I hear a crash! I walked around the corner to investigate and saw a picture perfect greeting card moment. (Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture)
What did I see? I saw my very sweet, innocent little boy in his underwear, standing in the recliner, leaning over to the table with a spatula in his hand. He smiled at me with cookie dough smeared across his cheeks and said "I found it mama!" And there was a glass of milk splattered across my living room floor and up the wall and on the couch.
It was so funny and cute I didn't know what to do. It was my fault because I left the bowl out. He didn't mean to spill the milk and He didn't ask so I never told him no. But in the process of trying to keep cookie dough from being smeared down the arm of the recliner and catching the milk before it ran under the couch, I didn't get a picture or even get mad. But the sight of him standing there smiling like he had just found a $100 is something I will never forget.
I love being a mom to a little boy!
