We Survived

Well, we survived the storm!
I could've told you a couple of days ago, but I like to keep you in suspense!

I stepped out in the middle of the storm and snapped a few pictures.  It was cold!  We didn't get as much snow as Woodward, but we got enough.  Anything is better than nothing when it comes to moisture.  It's actually really hard to tell exactly how much we received because it was blowing to hard and pushing the snow into drifts.

See what I mean about drifts?

We were fortunate, we didn't receive any damage and our electricity was only out for about forty five minutes total.

Unfortunately, one of the old buildings in town did suffer some significant damage.  I think this historic building is going to have to be torn down.  Luckily no one was injured.

Well, the Lord has answered our prayers for moisture.  Thanks to everyone who joined in prayer with us.

Matthew 11: 28-30

28.  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart:  and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden in light.

Cleaning Wheat Drills

So, I have just today, had a chance to go through the pictures I took this weekend.  We had a long weekend because Monday was President's Day, so LB worked at the farm all day!

On Saturday, the boys cleand the wheat drills.  There was wheat still in the drills from when they sowed wheat last fall.  On Monday, they were going to use the drills to sow oats.  They set aside thirteen acers to sow with oats to be used as feed for their cows.

The easiest way to clean wheat out of the drills, is to vaccuume them out!

I wonder how they cleaned out drills before vaccuume cleaners were invented?

Then, you dump the wheat into the truck.  Then take the truck to the elevator!

It's as simple as that!

Baby J lost interest pretty quick.  He was more interested in the "orse"!

And the rocks!

Breezy Dryer Sheets

This is the inside of my utility cabinet.  Almost everything in here is USA made.  There are a few things that I am not going to replace until the current is worn out and then there are a few things that I just haven't found USA made yet.

This is the newest addition to my Made in America utility room!

Breezy dryer sheets!  They work great and they only cost a dollar!  That's a lot cheeper than the name brand, which by the way was not made in America!

I honestly just got them.  I have never used dryer sheets, but since it has been so dry we've been having lots of trouble with static.  So in an attempt to keep static at bay I bought these and have already noticed a big difference!

I am truely excited about finding and using USA made products, but some things are very difficult to find American made.  I am currently looking for cleaning rags or towels.  If anyone knows where to find any, please send me some info!  Thanks!

It's The Simle Things

The other day, while I was finishing up supper, I kept hearing Baby J say "here Daddy, here  ya doe, here Daddy, here ya doe, here Daddy."  But, I never heard LB respond.

So, out of curiosity, I stepped around the corner to see what was going on.  Baby J then looked at me and said "shhhh!"

He just wanted to make sure LB had what he needed to take a successful nap!

It's the simple things in life that make me smile!

The Little Engine That Could

I bought this book for Baby J last month.  He loves it!

I think every child should have this book in their library.  It has a great moral to it's story and and the illustrationis are beautiful.  Baby J is a little young to understand the lessons in this book, but he enjoys looking at the pictures and anything whith wheels gets his approval!

It is an older book, but definately a classic.

Valentine's

Today, in honor of Valentine's Day, Baby J and I made salt dough hearts!

First, we dumped all the ingredients into the mixer.

Next, move the step stool!

Then you roll out the dough.

Yes, that is a cup!  LB and I have been married for eight years and I have always used that red cup to roll out my dough.  I decided today that I should buy a rolling pin!

In this half of the dough, I added red food coloring.  I only put it in half because my recipe didin't say anything about adding coloring and I didn't want to ruin the whole batch.  But, it worked beautifully and left me wishing I had ben brave and dyed all of it!

After freezing the dough for aproximately 30 minutes, you give your child a cookie cutter and let 'em go!

After about 5 minutes, Baby J decided it would be easier to put the dough into the cookie cutter than it was to do it the other way!

Baby J kept a watchful eye on them for the five hours it took for them to bake!

Look Dad!  See what I made!

Next year we'll make them sooner and he can give them as Valentines!

Hope y'all had a happy Valentine's Day

Joe's Hand Cleaner

I like being surprised!  And the other day this bottle of hand cleaner surprised me!

You see, LB uses this hand cleaner all the time.  He says it is the best in removing grease and other things that boys seem to accumulate on their hands when working outside or in the shop.  He keeps some in the shop and some in his pick-up.  And the fact that it is a water or waterless cleaner is just icing on the cake!

Something on this bottle caught my eye the other day.  It happened to be turned just right and the phrase "Proudly made in America" was perfectly in view!  But this product has an extra bonus...

...it's made right here in Oklahoma!

So, if you have extra greasy hands or spend lots of time out in your shop you should pick up a bottle!
And one extra for your tool box!

Snow!

I'm so excited!  This morning I woke up to this!

And it wasn't just a quick dusting, it was great big flakes that lasted until about five !

This is what it looked like by noon.

It didn't get much above freezing all day, but the ground was warm enough that alot of the snow melted.

The news man said we received about three inches.  That's a good bit of moisture, our wheat really needed it.

Cooper didn't get to get out and play in it yet.  It was such a wet snow and the wind was really chilly.
Maybe tomorrow we'll go build a snowman!

Thankful for the moisture!

How To Make A Bed

First you buy a truck.

Oh, wait, did you think I was going to give you tips on pulling and tucking sheets!

Now you won't find something like that on this blog!

Then you install a hoist.

That's the thing that raises the bed up and down.  (So they can dump the wheat.)

LB said these are called the stringers.  They are basically the frame for the bed.

I stole these pictures from LB's camera.  I've been out there three or four times and I didn't have my camera any of those times.  I think they are farther along now, but I haven't been out there in a couple of days.

I'll keep you posted!

Psalm 3

1.Lord how are they increased that trouble me!Many are they that rise up against me.
2.Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.
3.But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
4.I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill.  Selah.
5.I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.
6.I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
7.Arise, O Lord, save me, O my God:  for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.
8.Salvation belongeth unto the Lord:  thy blessing is upon thy people.  Selah.

Four Things

1.  Right now, outside it's RAINING!!!
I'm so glad, it's such a wonderful sight and sound.  I just don't think it's going to end up being very much.
2.  Tonight, I caught the inside of my oven on fire!
My entire house smelled like smoke.  All I wanted to do was bake corn on the cobb for a get together with some friends.  The seasoning I put on the corn leaked onto the bottom of my oven and smoked so bad I'm pretty sure our clothes smelled!
3.  We haven't been to the farm much lately.  Things are always slower in the winter, but it seems that every time LB has something to do where we can go, I either forget my camera or it's to cold for Baby J!  Right now, He and The Mechanic are building a bed for their new wheat truck.  I'll show  you pictures of that later.
4. Valentine's day is coming up and Baby J and I have been busy making cards!  Ninteen month old little boys have better things to do than sit still and color, but when he does sit still....
Let's just say I have gone through a lot of wipes!

Orange Vinegar

I know this looks really gross, but it actually is really neat!

I saw on pinterest a while ago where someone put orange peels in their vinegar, let it set, then had a wonderfully scented cleaner.  So, I tried it! (It worked, but I needed to put more peels in.  The scent wasn't as strong as I'd have liked.) This is a great green cleaner and does MANY things.

For instructions and further informationi on making and using Orange Vinegar check out Ann's post at the Fountain Avenue Kitchen.

For those of you who don't know, vinegar is great for lots of things around the house.  One of the main things I use vinegar for, is to remove hard water build up. We have hard water here in our small town, so about once a month, I get out my trusty vinegar and scrub all the build up off my faucets.

These are off my bathroom faucets.  I didn't think to take a picture of them on the faucets and I don't know the exact name of what these are, so I hope you're not confused.

See all that yucky hard water build up?  I'm going to show you how to get it off.

You simply drop them into a bowl of vinegar and let it set.
See how much has already flaked off in just 15 minutes.

See how nice and shiny they are after just a few hours of soaking and a little bit of brushing.

If you decide to try this, remember you may have to refresh your vinegar periodically through out the soaking process.  Also, I brush with a toothbrush and rinse every once in a while.

Hope you have enjoyed my little home remedy!
Happy Cleaning, Amy

Acrylic Craft Paint

Decorating my utility room all USA is proving to be a little more difficult than I thought.

I have a couple of things that I had come across last fall that I have been saving specifically for my utility.  I am not that great a painter, but how hard could it be?  So, I went to the craft store and picked out a couple of colors I liked.  Both colors have been said, according to pinterest, to be great paired with turquoise.  Luckily, these paints are Made in the USA!  As I got to looking, all the different brands were made in USA.

Here's the first piece that I have finished.  Looks pretty good for a first attempt at distressing!
And the red goes good with the blue, huh?

I think another good way to decorate is by re-purposing, reusing, or upcycling!  Most likely this was made in the USA to begin with. This piece of architecture is old enough that anything but made in USA was rarely heard of! But even if not, it's one less piece into the landfill!
