A First Encounter

So, what's the fun of being a farm boy if you don't get to play with the baby calves?

On Thursday after Thanksgiving Dinner, we took Baby J to his Uncle's, The Mechanic, to see the bottle calves.

It was fun watching him. At first, he wasn't sure what to think, neither did the calves.

Did you bring me a bottle?

Please, can I have one?

Your Farm Friend

Yummy!

This week, Baby J, got his first bite of cereal!

I thought it was going to be a fight!  But he opened right up and asked for more!

I even had to hold his hands down, because I wasn't feeding him fast enough!

He was very excited!

If he gets this excited over rice cereal, just think how he's going to react over fruit!

Thanksgiving, the holiday that's celebrated by stuffing yourself to the brim with delicious food, couldn't have a better time to get your first bite of food!

Happy eating!

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

This morning as I snuggled up on the couch with Baby J to watch Macy's Parade on his first Thanksgiving, I got to wondering about when it all began.  So, here are a few fun facts about the parade.

  • The first parade was held in 1924 and featured animals from the Central Park Zoo!
  • Helium Balloons were first introduced to the parade in 1927. They were released at the end of the parade with gift certificates for the person who found them, but they unexpectedly burst once they reached the skyline.
  • Mickey Mouse made his first appearance in 1934

  • The parade was televised nationally for the first time in 1947.
  • In 1957 a downpour filled the hat on Popeye's balloon with gallons of water. It caused him to veer off course and dump water on surprised spectators!
  • The parade floats are designed in an old tootsie roll factory in  Hoboken, NJ.

Seven Years Ago

Seven years ago today, LB and I got hitched!

Sometimes, it's almost hard to believe it's been that long. It went by so fast!

A lot can happen in Seven Years!

We have moved twice. We've bought two dogs,

We bought a fish tank.

We went to Texas, Kansas, and New Mexico.

We have traded vehicles three times.

We floated the Illinois River.

Between the two of us, we've had five different jobs.

We've said goodbye to loved ones, and welcomed new ones into the family.

We lived through, a flood, a drought, and an ice storm.

We had a baby.

We had puppies.

We had a garden.
We have known each other for seven years and seven months!

We've celebrated 6 Christmases and 14 birthdays (Seven birthdays each!)

And the list goes on and on...

Happy Anniversary Baby!

Halloween Decorations

Since it's a week after Halloween, I decided it was time to take down my decorations!

I love my Halloween decorations. I like them because they aren't scary.

Do you know how hard it is to find Halloween decorations that aren't scary?
Well, I do. That's why I made these. (Well, I didn't make the pumpkin with the witch hat, that was a gift from my Aunt.)

The wooden mice are fun.  I usually have them climbing on my pumpkins outside, but there were no pumpkins to be had this year. But, they work inside too.

Here's a picture from a few years ago.  I made the mask too, if  i don't carve them I can decorate with them through Thanksgiving!

Last, but not least, my paper garland and spiders!

Saying goodbye to Halloween means Christmas is on its way!!

By the way, I made a bunch of this stuff for a craft fair a while back, so if anyone is interested in these, just shoot me an e-mail: aljones2u@yahoo.

A Stray Calf

On Monday night, we found a stray calf!

He was just so darn cute...

that we decided to keep him!

But just like every cattleman does with their stock,

we branded him!

Then, like every proud parent,

we took him around to the family and showed him off!

Love, The very proud mommy!
